A domino set, often referred to as a deck or pack, typically comprises 28 tiles in the traditional Sino-European set. These tiles, nicknamed bones, cards, tiles, tickets, stones, or spinners, are rectangular with a dividing line creating two square ends, each marked with spots or left blank. Domino sets are versatile, much like playing cards or dice, enabling a wide variety of games. Extended sets like double 9 and double 12 are used for games such as Mexican train and Chicken Foot. Each country has its favorite dominoes games, from Muggins (All fives) in England, Bergen in Scandinavian countries, Mexican train in Mexico, to Matador in Spain.

Dominoes originated in Song Dynasty China and made their way to Italy in the 18th century, evolving into the diverse game we enjoy today.

The general rules of dominoes encompass various game types:

Blocking Game

In this fundamental variant for two players using a double six set, players draw seven tiles each from the shuffled stock or boneyard. Tiles are placed on-edge, visible only to their owner. The game begins with one player laying down their first tile, which varies by game—Muggins starts with the highest double (6-6), Bergen with 0-0, and Mexican train with the next lower double each round. Players take turns extending the line of play by matching tile values. The game concludes when a player plays their last tile or when the game is blocked, with the winner scoring the pips in the opponent's remaining tiles.

Scoring Game

Points are scored for specific configurations, moves, or emptying one's hand. In Muggins (All fives), players score when the open ends sum to multiples of five. In Bergen, points are earned when the open ends match. Mexican train awards 50 points for playing the double zero. If a player fails to call "domino" before laying a tile and another player calls it afterward, the first player must draw an extra tile.

Draw Game

Players may draw additional tiles from the stock before playing. The game's score is calculated from the pips in the losing player's hand plus those in the stock, usually leaving two tiles in the stock. The Draw game is commonly referred to as simply "dominos."

Mexican train has arrived, enhancing our already diverse set of domino game varieties! You can now play domino online with Draw game, Block game, and Muggins (All fives) for free!
