Marvel Rivals' Controversial Hitbox System Draws Attention

Marvel Rivals

A recent Reddit thread highlighted a significant issue in Marvel Rivals: broken hitboxes. A video showcased Spider-Man landing a hit on Luna Snow from several meters away, a clear indication of inaccurate collision detection. Other examples showed hits registering despite visually missing their target. While some attribute this to lag compensation, the core problem appears to be flawed hitbox geometry.

Professional players have further demonstrated inconsistencies, with shots consistently hitting targets to the right of the crosshair but missing those to the left. This isn't just a minor bug; it points to a systemic problem affecting multiple characters' hit detection.

Despite this, Marvel Rivals, often dubbed the "Overwatch killer," has enjoyed a remarkably successful Steam launch. Day one saw a peak concurrent player count exceeding 444,000 – a number comparable to Miami's population. While optimization remains a concern, with noticeable frame rate drops even on cards like the Nvidia GeForce 3050, many players consider it a fun and worthwhile experience. The game's simpler revenue model is also a plus.

A key differentiator is the non-expiring nature of battle passes. This removes the pressure to constantly grind, a factor likely contributing to the positive player reception.
