Auction Bridge and International Bridge (IB) is a variation of the classic Bridge card game, representing the third major evolutionary step in the broader bridge game family. It evolved from Straight Bridge (also known as Bridge Whist), which itself was derived from the older games of Whist and Bridge Whist. Auction Bridge & IB served as a crucial precursor to modern Contract Bridge.

The scoring system in Auction Bridge & IB—including trick scoring, bonus scoring, and penalty scoring—differs significantly from that of Contract Bridge. Notably, there is no concept of vulnerability in Auction Bridge & IB, which further distinguishes it from its successor.

The rules for selecting trumps are quite similar to those in Contract Bridge, though slightly less complex. The gameplay and general laws are also closely aligned with Contract Bridge. However, in Auction Bridge & IB, the dealer initiates the bidding process and must declare a contract aiming to win at least the odd trick (i.e., seven tricks) in a chosen trump suit or at No-trumps. Contracts are ranked based on the total point value rather than the number of tricks won. For instance, a bid of 3 Spades (worth 27 points) will beat a bid of 4 Clubs (worth 24 points).

Each trick beyond the initial six contributes to scoring as follows:

• No Trumps: 10 points
• Spades: 9 points
• Hearts: 8 points
• Diamonds: 7 points
• Clubs: 6 points

Reaching a total of 30 points constitutes a game-winning score.
