New Zois Cannot Be Born If There Are Too Many Ghosts

inZOI can transform vibrant cities into desolate ghost towns when an excessive number of ghosts accumulate, significantly impacting the city's status. inZOI Director Hyungjun Kim, in a recent PC Gamer Magazine feature, discussed the profound influence of the game's karma system on player experience.

Kim explained, "Each time a Zoi takes an action, they accumulate karma points." He further noted, "Upon death, a karma evaluation determines the soul's state. If the score is too low, the Zoi turns into a ghost, needing to redeem their karma before reincarnating."

If this situation escalates unchecked, the city can face dire consequences. Kim stated, "An abundance of ghosts prevents new Zois from being born or families from forming, placing the onus on players to manage the city's karma." This mechanism adds a layer of complexity, urging players to maintain a delicate balance within the karma system to prevent their cities from becoming ghost towns.

Kim also emphasized that the system isn't designed to strictly enforce 'good' actions over 'bad' ones. He said, "Life isn’t black and white; it's full of nuances and each life holds its own value and meaning." He encourages players to delve into inZOI’s karma system to foster diverse narratives and explore life's myriad facets.

While inZOI may pose as a significant contender in the life simulation genre against The Sims, Director Hyungjun Kim does not see it as direct competition. He clarified, "We view inZOI as an additional choice for fans of the genre, not a rival to The Sims."

Expressing admiration for The Sims, Kim added, "We deeply respect the legacy The Sims has cultivated over the years. Achieving such depth in a short time is challenging, given the broad and intricate nature of life simulation games."

inZOI aims to offer a distinct experience by emphasizing its unique features. Kim highlighted, "inZOI empowers players to craft their desired life using a variety of creative tools. We leverage Unreal Engine 5 for a realistic visual style, provide in-depth customization, and incorporate AI-driven tools. We hope players will use these features to bring their imaginations to life, becoming protagonists in their own worlds."
