The highly anticipated Narnia reboot, helmed by acclaimed writer and director Greta Gerwig, continues to build its impressive cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Oscar-nominated actress Carey Mulligan has joined the project, rounding out a stellar ensemble alongside former James Bond star Daniel Craig, Sex Education’s Emma Mackey, and legendary actress Meryl Streep.

Gerwig, known for her critically acclaimed work, returns as both writer and director for her reinterpretation of C.S. Lewis’ beloved fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia. This new installment will adapt the series’ prequel novel, The Magician’s Nephew, which delves into the origins of Narnia before the events of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

Carey Mulligan is set to portray Mabel Kirke, the mother of the novel’s young protagonist, Digory. Daniel Craig will play Uncle Andrew, Digory’s enigmatic uncle and the titular magician. Emma Mackey will bring a younger version of the iconic White Witch to life, while Meryl Streep lends her voice to Aslan, the wise and powerful talking lion central to the series.

This latest adaptation marks a fresh take on the classic tales, following a previous trilogy released between 2005 and 2010. Those earlier films, which included Tilda Swinton as the White Witch and Liam Neeson as the voice of Aslan, brought the first three books of the series to the big screen.

Gerwig’s upcoming project follows the success of her 2023 film Barbie, which became a global phenomenon and garnered eight Academy Award nominations, winning for Best Original Song. Fans can look forward to The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, slated for release in 2026.
