Scalebound: Hints at a Possible Revival?

Scalebound was once heralded as one of the most ambitious action projects, blending dynamic combat, music, and a unique system of interaction with a colossal dragon companion. This Xbox One exclusive garnered significant attention upon its announcement in 2014. However, despite high anticipation, Microsoft officially ceased its development in 2017, leaving fans disappointed.

Recently, Clovers Inc's official account on X shared a video featuring Hideki Kamiya and his team reviewing archived gameplay footage of Scalebound. In the video, Kamiya reminisced about the creation process with a sense of nostalgia and expressed continued pride in the project, despite its cancellation. Kamiya further amplified the buzz by retweeting the video with a poignant message directed at Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft's gaming division: "Come on, Phil, let's do this!". This plea underscores Kamiya's ongoing interest in reviving the game, a sentiment he first voiced back in early 2022, expressing a desire to discuss its potential revival with Microsoft.

Speculation about Scalebound's return has persisted, gaining momentum in early 2023 when multiple sources hinted at a possible reboot. Yet, Microsoft has remained silent on the matter. In a recent interview with Game Watch, when queried about Scalebound, Phil Spencer offered a cryptic smile and stated, "I have nothing to add at this time," leaving fans to interpret his response.

Even if Microsoft were to consider reviving Scalebound, an immediate return is unlikely. Hideki Kamiya is currently immersed in developing a new installment of Okami at Clovers Inc. Should Xbox decide to greenlight the project, Kamiya would only be able to commence work on Scalebound after completing his current commitments. Nonetheless, the enduring interest in Scalebound offers hope that one day, fans might finally experience the much-anticipated game.
