Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Secures Third Spot in 2025 U.S. Game Sales

by Sebastian Dec 11,2025

With remarkable Steam concurrent player numbers and Bethesda’s report of 4 million players, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has solidified its success by ranking as the third best-selling game in the U.S. for 2025, just one week after its release.

Launched unexpectedly on April 22, Oblivion Remastered achieved a peak of 216,784 concurrent players on Steam. This figure, while notable, only captures part of its reach, as the game also debuted on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and was included in Game Pass.

A new milestone confirms its strong performance: within a week of release, Oblivion Remastered became the third top-selling game in the U.S. for 2025 based on dollar sales. According to Circana’s Mat Piscatella, it follows only Monster Hunter: Wilds and Assassin’s Creed: Shadows on the 2025 sales chart.

Notably, Circana’s sales data excludes players accessing the game through subscription services, highlighting Oblivion Remastered’s commercial success despite its availability on Microsoft’s Game Pass.

This achievement suggests more Bethesda remasters are likely, with speculation pointing to Fallout 3—previously leaked in 2023—or Fallout: New Vegas as potential candidates.

What might players anticipate from such remasters? Bruce Nesmith, a designer on Fallout 3, highlighted its outdated gun combat, suggesting Bethesda would prioritize significant improvements in a remaster, aligning it closer to Fallout 4’s refined mechanics.

In an interview with VideoGamer, Nesmith noted that a Fallout 3 Remastered would likely feature shooting mechanics similar to Fallout 4. “Fallout 4’s improvements reflect what Bethesda deemed necessary to update from Fallout 3,” he explained.

“Fallout 3 marked Bethesda’s first attempt at a shooter-style game, and while the effort was impressive, the combat didn’t fully meet expectations,” Nesmith added.

Developed by Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, Oblivion Remastered boasts extensive visual and gameplay enhancements. It delivers 4K resolution at 60 frames per second, alongside revamped leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. New dialogue, improved third-person perspective, and advanced lip sync technology further elevate the experience. Fans have embraced these updates, with some arguing it feels more like a remake. Bethesda, however, has clarified its choice to pursue a remaster.

Nesmith suggested a Fallout 3 Remastered would likely follow a similar approach, incorporating comparable enhancements to Oblivion Remastered.

“Fallout 3’s combat didn’t match the standards of contemporary shooters,” he said. “As an RPG shooter, it wasn’t designed for fast-paced action, but Fallout 4’s advancements would likely inform any updates.”

“Oblivion Remastered goes beyond matching Skyrim’s 2011 visuals,” Nesmith added. “It delivers graphics that appear to surpass Skyrim’s latest updates, earning it the nickname ‘Oblivion 2.0’ among some.”
