Minnesota Whist
Dive into the exciting world of Minnesota Whist, a unique no-trump partnership card game now available on your smartphone or tablet! Enjoy this classic game from Minnesota and South Dakota for free, complete with stat tracking and intelligent AI opponents. Whether you're a seasoned card player or new to the scene, Minnesota Whist is the perfect way to enhance your card game skills and enjoy some strategic fun.
In Minnesota Whist, the game's objective shifts between "high bid" and "low bid" rounds. During high bids, your goal is to secure seven or more out of the thirteen tricks. Conversely, in low bids, the aim is to take six or fewer tricks. It's a simple yet engaging game that's great for developing strategic thinking and teamwork, all while you unwind with its fast-paced action.
Team up with your AI partner to outsmart your opponents. As you play, you'll refine your skills in trick-taking games, and when you're ready, you can crank up the difficulty for an even greater challenge. To emerge victorious, you and your partner must be the first to reach the win target, set at either 13 or seven.
Keep an eye on your stats to track your progress over time and within each session. With customizable options, you can tailor the game to suit your preferences:
- Choose your preferred win target.
- Opt for a "set bonus" to add an extra layer of strategy.
- Select from easy, medium, or hard mode to match your skill level.
- Choose between normal or fast play for your desired pace.
- Play in either landscape or portrait mode for comfort.
- Enable or disable single-click play for convenience.
- Sort your cards in ascending or descending order.
- Replay hands from the play or the bid to learn from your moves.
- Review previous hands to understand the game's flow.
Customize your experience further with different color themes and card decks to keep the game visually engaging.
Quickfire Rules:
After dealing the cards evenly among four players, each player bids by choosing either a high (black card) or low (red card) bid. The bid cards are revealed starting from the player to the left of the dealer. If a black card is turned over first, the player who bid it has 'granded', and the round is played 'high', with teams aiming to win as many tricks as possible. If all bid cards are red, the round is played 'low', with teams trying to win as few tricks as possible.
In a high bid round, the player to the right of the one who granded leads the first trick. In a low bid round, the player to the left of the dealer leads. Players must follow suit if they can; otherwise, they can play any card. The highest card in the led suit wins the trick, and the winner leads the next trick.
At the end of each round, points are awarded based on the number of tricks collected by each partnership. In high bid rounds, the team who granded earns a point for each trick over six. If they fail to reach seven tricks, the opposing team scores either one or two points per trick over six, depending on the 'set bonus' setting. In low bid rounds, teams earn a point for each trick under seven.
