Euchre is played using a deck of 24 standard playing cards, with two teams of two players each.

When a player names a suit (ordering up trump), they commit their team to winning the majority of tricks in the hand. The team scores one point for winning three or four tricks, and two points for winning all five tricks. If the team fails to win three tricks, they are "euchred" and the opposing team is awarded two points.

A caller with an exceptionally strong hand can choose to "go alone" (order up alone), attempting to win all tricks without their partner's help. In a lone hand, the caller's partner sits out. If the caller wins all five tricks, their team scores four points. If they only win three or four tricks, they score one point. If euchred while playing alone, the opposing team still receives two points.

The most important rule in Euchre is that you are never forced to play a trump card (unless it's the suit that was led), but you must follow suit whenever possible.
