Frostpunk developer 11 bit Studios surprised fans with the announcement of their latest project, Frostpunk 1886. Shared via a Twitter (X) post on April 24, this remake promises to bring the beloved original game to new heights with the capabilities of the Unreal Engine.

The studio aims to preserve the legacy of the original while introducing a completely new Purpose Path, long-awaited mod support, and other enhancements. In a detailed Steam post from the same day, 11 bit Studios outlined their vision for Frostpunk 1886, moving away from their internal Liquid Engine used in the first game. With Frostpunk 2 already leveraging Unreal Engine 5, the team recognized the potential to enhance the original game significantly. "Our goal is to expand upon it with improved visuals, higher resolution, and all the other possibilities Unreal has to offer," they explained.

Eyeing A 2027 Release
