Five Days From Early Access: Dune: Awakening's Late-Game Revealed

by Joshua Jan 21,2026

Funcom encouraged us to "let them cook," and judging by last night's Dune: Awakening showcase, the developers certainly did. With only a few days remaining before early access players begin their "head start," Funcom streamed a live event that highlighted Dune: Awakening's mid-to-endgame phases and provided a comprehensive look at Hagga Basin, "emphasizing the size and variety players can look forward to." This included areas like the "lush O’odham, the forbidding Hagga Rift, the tall spires and imposing rock formations of Jabal Eifrit, to name a few."

Drawing inspiration from Denis Villeneuve and Legendary Entertainment's blockbuster films, Dune: Awakening enables players to explore Arrakis in an open-world setting for the very first time. Until now, beta participants have experienced only about 25% of Hagga Basin, making the livestream a grand display of "these vast and varied landscapes" in their full splendor.

"Before tackling the expansive dunes and perils of the Deep Desert, players will immerse themselves in a comprehensive survival experience," Funcom hinted.

"Players can ascend through the ranks of the Atreides or Harkonnen, construct formidable strongholds, venture into Imperial Testing Stations, craft advanced schematics, and explore and gather resources using various vehicles, among many other activities." Additionally, the "Landsraad feature enables all players to contribute to influencing their entire faction, regardless of whether they favor PvE or PvP."

Dune: Awakening is an open-world survival MMO that takes place on the universe's most perilous planet. You'll master desert survival by adopting Fremen techniques and enhance your capabilities through combat, spice harvesting, construction, and trade. The game is scheduled for release on June 10, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X and S, following a three-week delay to address issues found in beta testing. However, players with an "early start" can begin playing five days earlier, from June 5.

"As a dedicated Dune enthusiast, it's incredibly satisfying to explore and delve deeper into a world I hold dear. Funcom has evidently invested significant effort into worldbuilding and lore, even while exercising creative freedom by setting Awakening in a parallel reality distinct from the books and movies," as noted in IGN's Dune: Awakening closed beta impressions preview.

"Subtle details can profoundly influence gameplay. Without revealing spoilers, this meticulous attention to detail permeates nearly every facet of the world, from the factions to the characters encountered, offering a delightful experience for fans of the universe."
