In standard Gin Rummy, only players with 10 or fewer deadwood points can knock. Knocking with zero deadwood is known as a "Gin" hand, while knocking with remaining points is called "going down."

♣️ Straight Gin Rummy ♣️

In this variant, knocking is not allowed. Both players compete to form Gin, and the first to do so wins the round.

♥️ Oklahoma Gin Rummy ♥️

In this popular version, the value of the initial face-up card sets the maximum deadwood points allowed to knock. For example, if a seven is shown, you must reduce your deadwood to 7 points or less to knock.
