**Players & Cards**

Tong-Its is designed for three players and uses a standard 52-card Anglo-American deck, excluding jokers. The card ranks are as follows: Ace (1 point), 2-10 (face value), Jack, Queen, and King (10 points each). The goal is to form sets and runs to minimize the points of unmatched cards in your hand.

**Objective**

The aim of Tong-Its is to strategically draw and discard cards to create sets and runs. A run is made up of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit, such as ♥4, ♥5, ♥6 or ♠8, ♠9, ♠10, ♠J. Note that A-K-Q does not count as a run since aces are considered low. A set is formed by three or four cards of the same rank, like ♥7, ♣7, ♦7. Remember, a card can only be part of one combination at a time.

**The Deal**

The initial dealer is chosen at random, and subsequent dealers are the winners of the previous hand. Cards are dealt counterclockwise, starting with the dealer who receives thirteen cards, while the other players get twelve each. The remaining cards form the stock, placed face down.

**The Play**

Each turn involves three key actions:

  • **Draw**: Begin your turn by taking a card from either the stock or the discard pile. You can only take from the discard pile if you can immediately form a meld with it, which you must then expose.
  • **Exposing Melds**: Optionally, you can lay down any valid sets or runs from your hand. If you draw from the stock, you're not required to meld, but to open your hand, you must lay at least one meld on the table. A special move allows you to lay down a set of four face down if you didn't draw from the discard pile to complete it, keeping the bonus for a secret set of four.
  • **Laying off (sapaw)**: Optionally, add cards to existing melds on the table, whether they're yours or another player's. There's no limit to how many cards you can lay off in a turn, and you don't need to have opened your hand to do so. Laying off on another player's meld prevents them from drawing from the discard pile on their next turn.
  • **Discard**: Conclude your turn by discarding one card from your hand onto the discard pile, face up.
