Tony Todd's Final Destination Farewell Was Improvised

by Penelope Aug 11,2026

The excitement is palpable with the latest Final Destination movie, Bloodlines, now in theaters. This sixth installment in the iconic series brings back the beloved elements fans expect, including the legendary Tony Todd. The late actor, renowned for his chilling role as the original Candyman, delivers a powerful monologue in the film — one that was completely unscripted, according to producer Craig Perry, who described Todd's final performance as deeply moving.

"We were all aware of his serious illness," Perry shared in a recent Deadline interview, reflecting on both the new film and his journey producing the franchise since its 2000 debut. "It was clear this would be his final film role, and the fact that it was for a Final Destination movie made it all the more poignant."

Perry explained that directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein took a creative chance during Todd's scene, encouraging him to speak genuinely rather than stick to the script.

"Our directors wisely decided to set aside the last few scripted lines and told Tony, 'Just say what you want to the fans. Share whatever you feel is important in this moment,'" Perry elaborated. "The emotional depth of that scene comes from its authenticity — it was Tony speaking directly through the camera to the fans who have supported him throughout his career. It was a truly magical and impactful moment on set, one that will stay with me forever."
