"Switch 2's Joy-Con Mouse Feature Enhances Home Menu Navigation"

by Emma Jun 01,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the Switch 2 Joy-Con mouse controls directly on the Home screen. Since the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, fans have eagerly speculated about the potential of the new Joy-Con’s mouse functionality. Last month, we received official word that the Joy-Con can indeed operate in "mouse mode," allowing users to glide the controllers over surfaces while simulating left-click and right-click actions via the analog sticks. Interestingly, two Joy-Con controllers can even function simultaneously in mouse mode—one in each hand—or individually with one in standard mode and the other in mouse mode.

The latest development reveals even more exciting possibilities. As showcased on the Nintendo Today app and shared on X/Twitter, the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls can now be used to navigate the Home menu on the Switch 2.

According to Nintendo, placing the Joy-Con 2 controller on a flat surface with the attachment side facing downward will display a cursor on the screen. Simply move the Joy-Con across the surface to navigate. While in mouse mode, tilting the control stick allows users to scroll through menus. The feature is also compatible with the Home menu and select software titles. To revert to traditional thumbstick controls, simply rotate the Joy-Con 2 to a horizontal position.

Although the full extent of mouse-compatible games remains unclear, Nintendo has demonstrated the technology working in titles such as the Switch 2 editions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.

Play The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is scheduled to launch on June 5. Pre-orders began on April 24, maintaining its price point of $449.99. As expected, demand was strong. For more details, check out IGN’s Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
