Street Fighter Tournament “Sleep Fighter” Announced in JapanPlayers Must Accumulate Sleep Points Before the Tournament

Insufficient sleep results in penalties at a new Street Fighter tournament, the "Sleep Fighter." Announced this week, this official Capcom-backed event is organized by SS Pharmaceuticals to promote its sleep aid, Drewell.

The Sleep Fighter tournament is a team-based event. Each three-player team competes in "best-of-three" matches to accumulate points. Top teams advance. Besides victory points, teams earn "Sleep Points" based on logged sleep hours.

The week before, each team member must sleep at least six hours nightly. Teams failing to reach 126 hours lose five points per deficient hour. The team with the most sleep time chooses match conditions.

SS Pharmaceuticals promotes the event to highlight the importance of sleep for peak performance. Their campaign, "Let's Do the Challenge, Let's Sleep First," aims to encourage healthy sleep habits. Sleep Fighter is the first esports tournament to penalize sleep deficiency, according to the official website.
