Rumor: Switch 2 Won’t Be Compatible With Vital Accessory

Nintendo Switch 2: A Closer Look at the Rumored Specs and Design

Recent leaks suggest the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 may require a more powerful charger than its predecessor. While the console's design appears largely similar to the original Switch, a 60W power cord is reportedly needed for optimal performance, rendering the original Switch's charger potentially inadequate. The official unveiling is anticipated by March 2025.

Rumors surrounding Nintendo's next-generation console have been circulating for some time, with little official confirmation from the company. However, leaked images have fueled speculation, hinting at a design closely resembling the original Switch, albeit with enhancements. Images purportedly showing the Switch 2's magnetic Joy-Cons have further solidified some of these claims.

A recent image shared by journalist Laura Kate Dale, allegedly sourced from a reliable contact on BlueSky, showcases the Switch 2's charging dock. This leak reinforces the claim that the console will ship with a 60W charger. This suggests the original Switch's lower-wattage cable might not provide sufficient power, potentially leading to inefficient charging or other issues. While charging with the older cable might be possible, a 60W cable is strongly recommended.

Charging Compatibility Concerns

The flurry of rumors surrounding the Switch 2 extends beyond its charging capabilities. Earlier leaks detailed development kits sent to game developers, hinting at potential titles including a new Mario Kart installment and Monolith Soft's Project X Zone. Speculation on the console's hardware suggests graphical power comparable to the PlayStation 4 Pro, although some sources indicate it might be slightly less powerful.

While the Switch 2 will include its own charger, the incompatibility with the original Switch's cable presents a potential inconvenience. Gamers who misplace their new charger should be aware that using the older cable might not be ideal, assuming the rumor proves accurate.
