Will Wright's New AI Sim Game, Proxi: A Deep Dive into Interactive Memories

Proxi, The Sims Creator's New Game, Has More Details Revealed

The mastermind behind The Sims, Will Wright, recently unveiled more details about his innovative AI life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D. This unique game, initially announced in 2018, is finally gaining momentum, with continuous development underway at Gallium Studio.

The livestream, part of BreakthroughT1D's Dev Diaries series, focused on the game's development and its creator's personal connection to the project. BreakthroughT1D, a leading organization dedicated to Type 1 diabetes research, uses its Twitch channel to raise awareness and funds through collaborations with the gaming community.

Wright emphasized Proxi's core mechanic: transforming personal memories into interactive, animated scenes. Players input their memories as text, and the game's AI engine renders them into 3D environments. These "mems" can be customized using in-game assets, enhancing the realism and emotional impact. Each new memory added trains the game's AI, expanding the player's "mind world"—a navigable 3D space composed of hexagons.

This mind world becomes populated with Proxies representing friends and family, as more memories are added. Memories are arranged chronologically and linked to Proxies, reconstructing the context and relationships within each recollection. Incredibly, these Proxies can even be exported to other game platforms like Minecraft and Roblox!

Wright's goal is to forge a deeply personal gaming experience, unlike anything seen before. He cleverly noted, "No game designer has ever gone wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players," highlighting the game's focus on the player's own life and experiences.

Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements expected soon.
