$3,599.99 at Lenovo

The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i features a 16" 2560x1600 240Hz OLED display, an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 GPU, 32GB of DDR5-6400MHz RAM, and 2TB (2x1TB) of SSD storage. The Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX significantly outperforms the Core Ultra 9 185H CPU found in previous flagship models. Unlike the 185H, which prioritized energy efficiency over raw power, the 275HX is a true successor to the i9-14900HX and pairs exceptionally well with the GeForce RTX 5080 mobile GPU.

The Legion Pro 7i is packed with modern features such as WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4, USB Type-C with up to 140W Power Delivery, Thunderbolt 4 with DisplayPort 2.1 (40Gbps), and a USB Type-A port with USB 3.2 Gen 2 specifications. It retains the increasingly rare RJ45 ethernet port and includes a privacy shutter for the webcam. The durable and premium chassis is crafted from aluminum and magnesium.

We've Reviewed an RTX 5080 Equipped Gaming Laptop

While we have not yet tested Lenovo's latest Legion laptop, we have reviewed a gaming laptop featuring the RTX 5080 GPU. The RTX 5080 offers only a slight improvement over the RTX 4080 in terms of raw rasterized performance. However, it significantly outperforms the 4080 when games support DLSS 4.0 with multi-frame generation. The Gigabyte Aorus Master laptop, equipped with an RTX 5080 with a 150W TGP rating and a 2560x1600 display, showed performance similar to what the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i is expected to deliver, given its identical TGP rating and display resolution.

Gigabyte Aorus Master 16" RTX 5080 Laptop Review by Chris Coke

"Nvidia's 50-series GPUs lean heavily on AI capabilities rather than pure native rendering performance. Although the RTX 5080's performance is disappointingly close to the RTX 4080's, this gap narrows when playing games that utilize multi-frame generation. While 'fake frames' might be a running joke, their impact on performance can be remarkable when implemented correctly, significantly enhancing gameplay. The effectiveness varies by game; for instance, Alan Wake 2 can feel laggy at higher settings, whereas Cyberpunk 2077 does not. With emerging technologies like neural shaders on the horizon, investing in these future capabilities makes sense, though it relies on Nvidia and game developers to integrate these features into new and existing titles."
