Pokémon Fossil Museum Heads to US Next Year

by Henry Dec 14,2025

The Pokémon Company has officially announced that the Pokémon Fossil Museum will make its North American debut in May 2026.

For those unfamiliar, the Pokémon Fossil Museum is precisely what its name suggests. Following its successful run in Japan, this unique exhibition—which juxtaposes recreated Pokémon "fossils" with actual ancient fossils from the real world—will open at Chicago's Field Museum on May 22, 2026. This marks the exhibition's first international appearance outside Japan.

"Visitors will encounter vibrant Pokémon displays alongside extinct creatures from the Field Museum's own collection," the museum explained. "You'll see scientific casts of iconic Field Museum dinosaurs, such as SUE the T. rex and the Chicago Archaeopteryx, displayed next to Fossil Pokémon like Tyrantrum and Archeops. Trainers, how many differences and similarities will you discover?"

If you're unable to travel to Japan or Chicago, you can still enjoy the experience from home. The Pokémon Company and Toyohashi Museum of Natural History have created a virtual tour of the Pokémon Fossil Museum, allowing fans to explore the exhibit online. The tour features a fascinating collection comparing real fossils—like those of a tyrannosaurus—with their Pokémon counterparts, such as Tyrantrum.

In other Pokémon-related news, we recently reported that a man in the UK was arrested after police uncovered a stash of stolen Pokémon cards valued at £250,000 (approximately $332,500). The discovery was made when Greater Manchester Police conducted a raid on a residence in Hyde, Tameside. A police spokesperson humorously remarked: "Gotta catch 'em all."
