God of War Ragnarok's Mixed Steam Rating Amid PSN Account Controversy

God of War Ragnarok's PC port has sparked controversy, receiving a "Mixed" user rating on Steam due to Sony's mandatory PSN account requirement.

Steam Review Bombing Over PSN Link

The recent PC release of God of War Ragnarok on Steam has been met with a wave of negative reviews, primarily targeting Sony's controversial decision to require a PSN account. This has resulted in a current 6/10 user score.

The PSN requirement, announced prior to launch, baffled many players and fueled the negative review bombing.

While some players report successfully playing without linking a PSN account, others express frustration. One review highlights the absurdity of the situation: "I get why people are upset...But I don't even understand because I could play fine without logging in. It sucks because those reviews are gonna turn people away from an incredible game." Another player describes technical issues: "PSN account requirement kills the excitement... gets stuck on the Black screen... shows I played it for 1 hour 40 minutes, how ridiculous that can be."

Despite the negative reviews, many positive comments praise the game's quality, attributing the low score solely to Sony's policy. A typical positive review states: "Good story as expected. Players are giving negative reviews mostly for PSN. Sony has to look carefully now into this matter. Otherwise the game is top notch in PC to play."

Sony's Repeated PSN Requirement Backlash

This isn't the first time Sony has faced this issue. Helldivers 2 previously encountered similar backlash over its PSN requirement, prompting Sony to reverse its decision. The current situation with God of War Ragnarok leaves Sony's future handling of PC releases under scrutiny.
