PlatinumGames Celebrates Bayonetta's 15th Anniversary

PlatinumGames Celebrates Bayonetta's 15th Anniversary with a Year of Festivities!

To commemorate fifteen years of the iconic Umbra Witch, PlatinumGames is launching a year-long celebration honoring fans' unwavering support. The original Bayonetta, released October 29, 2009 (Japan) and January 2010 (globally), redefined stylish action with its innovative gameplay and memorable protagonist. Directed by Hideki Kamiya (renowned for Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe), the game captivated players with its blend of gunplay, acrobatic combat, and magic-infused hair.

Bayonetta's creative premise and fast-paced action garnered critical acclaim, solidifying Bayonetta's status as a leading female video game anti-hero. While Sega published the original title, subsequent sequels became Nintendo exclusives, appearing on the Wii U and Nintendo Switch. A prequel, Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, further expanded the lore in 2023. Bayonetta herself has also graced the Super Smash Bros. roster.

PlatinumGames recently expressed gratitude to fans, announcing "Bayonetta's 15th Anniversary Year" for 2025. While specifics remain under wraps, the developer promises a series of exciting announcements throughout the year. Fans are encouraged to follow PlatinumGames' social media channels for updates.

2025: A Year of Bayonetta Celebrations

Already underway, Wayo Records has released a limited-edition Bayonetta music box featuring the Super Mirror design and a melody by Masami Ueda (Resident Evil, Okami composer). PlatinumGames is also distributing monthly Bayonetta-themed smartphone wallpapers, with January's showcasing Bayonetta and Jeanne in kimonos.

Even after 15 years, Bayonetta's influence endures. Its innovative mechanics, such as Witch Time, refined the stylish action genre, impacting subsequent PlatinumGames titles like Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Nier: Automata.
