Has Persona 4 Already Received a Remake?

Persona YouTuber ScrambledFaz posted a screenshot on X, highlighting the domain "p4re.jp" was registered on March 20th. Notably, "p3re.jp" was registered a mere few months before the official Persona 3 remake announcement two years ago. This clue fuels theories that a Persona 4 remake may be imminent.

The original Persona 4 launched in 2008, exclusive to PlayStation 3 and 4. Its expanded version, Persona 4 Golden, arrived in 2012 with a full port to PlayStation Vita and PC. Beyond visual enhancements, Golden introduced new content, including an additional town and the popular romance option, Marie.

However, Persona 4 Golden is not a full remake, much like Persona 3 Portable. That 2009 PSP adaptation added a new female protagonist and the Velvet Room attendant Theodore. While these were significant additions, they pale in comparison to the comprehensive graphical and gameplay overhaul seen in Persona 3: Reload.

What Could a Persona 4 Remake Offer?

If a potential Persona 4 remake follows the quality of Persona 3 Reload, fans have much to anticipate. The 2008 visuals of Persona 4 hold nostalgic charm, but a remake would provide a vital modern refresh. This could mean updated character portraits and newly animated cutscenes.

A remake would likely introduce more side quests and character interactions, inviting players to deepen social links once again. Persona 4 Golden added Okina City, offering side activities like movie dates and café visits. A remake could expand this area with even more depth and engagement.

When Might a Persona 4 Remake Arrive?

In 2024, a credible Sega insider stated a Persona 4 remake is undoubtedly in development, though a release may be some time away. Looking at the Persona 3: Reload timeline, an announcement could come as early as June. This mirrors the June 2023 reveal of Persona 3: Reload during the Xbox Summer Showcase.

Atlus has hinted at Persona 6 for years. With nearly a decade passing since Persona 5‘s debut, a release date for the sequel remains unknown. Confirmation of a Persona 4 remake could potentially extend this wait further, frustrating some fans who argue a remake is unnecessary. The hope is that such a project won't significantly hinder Persona 6's development, which is rumored to have been underway for years.

That covers all the current information on a potential Persona 4 remake, tentatively dubbed Persona 4 Reload.
