New Mass Effect-Style Game Osiris Reborn Features Romance

Owlcat Games has unveiled The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, a story-rich action RPG set within the beloved sci-fi TV universe. This marks a bold departure for the studio typically known for isometric RPGs like Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous and Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader.

The game transitions to an over-the-shoulder perspective with cover-based shooting mechanics and class-specific abilities. Players will manage parties, develop relationships with companions, and see TV actors reprise their roles - though Owlcat remains tight-lipped about specific cast members.

Players become a Pinkwater Security mercenary caught in Eros Station's deadly lockdown. The journey expands to commanding your own crew and navigating the solar system, blending action gameplay with deep narrative choices.

"This sci-fi action RPG represents a dream project for our team," said Creative Director Alexander Mishulin. "The Expanse's grounded, complex universe provides the perfect foundation for mature storytelling where player decisions carry real weight."

Game Design Producer Yuliya Chernenko acknowledged the Mass Effect trilogy's influence: "For many of us, those games defined our teenage gaming experiences. We're respecting that legacy while pushing beyond expectations with hard sci-fi authenticity, modern combat systems, and politically-charged narratives. And yes - relationships matter here too."

Character creation includes choosing between Earther, Martian, or Belter backgrounds before taking command of a cutting-edge ship. Companion characters feature their own backstories and influence the narrative, while combat involves tactical squad coordination with two active members.

Fans will recognize iconic locations like Ganymede and Ceres recreated with painstaking detail. The narrative runs parallel to events from the show's first three seasons (or the initial two novels), maintaining the franchise's signature political intrigue and moral ambiguity.

While no specific launch date has been announced, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn will release on Steam, Epic Games Store, GOG, and current-gen consoles. Despite simultaneous work on Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader DLC, the studio confirms this remains their central focus with a dedicated development team.
