by Aaron May 14,2025

Capcom has unveiled new gameplay footage for its highly anticipated action game, *Onimusha: Way of the Sword*, set to release in 2026. Fans are thrilled to learn that the game will be led by the historic Japanese swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi, bringing a legendary figure to the forefront of this dark fantasy adventure.

During the PlayStation State of Play, Capcom showcased a trailer that highlighted the sword-based action gameplay and the formidable enemies players will face. The game promises to deliver an engaging experience with Musashi at the helm, whose sword skills are depicted as unparalleled. Additionally, the trailer gave fans a glimpse into Musashi's roguish and comedic personality, adding depth to his character.

According to a press release from Capcom, *Onimusha: Way of the Sword* is described as a dark fantasy action game that stars one of Japan's most iconic historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's face in the game is modeled after the late Toshiro Mifune, a legendary Japanese actor known for portraying Musashi in samurai films, adding a touch of authenticity to the character's appearance.

The game is set in Kyoto, which has been overrun by an evil force called Malic. This malevolent entity is attempting to summon Hell and its inhabitants into Japan, setting the stage for an epic battle. *Onimusha: Way of the Sword* marks the first new entry in the Onimusha series in two decades, making it a significant release for fans of the franchise.

To build anticipation for the new game, Capcom has also announced the release of a remastered version of *Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny*, scheduled for May 23, 2025. This remaster aims to reintroduce fans to the series and prepare them for the upcoming *Onimusha: Way of the Sword*.
