Nvidia RTX 5060 Debuts: Hold Off on Purchase

Nvidia has officially released its budget-friendly RTX 5060 GPU following its initial announcement alongside the RTX 5060 Ti during April 2025's reveal. The graphics card becomes available after Nvidia's Computex showcase.
Affordable Next-Gen Performance
Priced at $299 MSRP, the GeForce RTX 5060 delivers 3,840 CUDA cores distributed across 30 Streaming Multiprocessors - specifications that position it as a capable 1080p gaming solution. Nvidia boasts impressive performance claims, suggesting the card can achieve 223 fps in Doom: The Dark Ages at maximum 1080p settings when utilizing 4x multi-frame generation.
The GPU serves as Nvidia's most accessible offering with full DLSS 4 support, including Multi-Frame Generation technology. However, its 30 SM configuration means performance ceilings will appear quicker than higher-end models.
Consumers should note the $299 price reflects baseline models. Board partners will release premium variants featuring factory overclocking, enhanced cooling solutions, and RGB lighting at higher price points.
Performance Benchmarks Pending
Despite the attractive price tag (assuming AIB partners maintain MSRP), tech enthusiasts should exercise patience before purchasing. Nvidia's performance claims exclusively reference frame-generation scenarios, leaving traditional gaming performance unclear.
The review landscape differs from previous Blackwell launches like the RTX 5090, as Nvidia hasn't distributed early drivers to media outlets. This delay means comprehensive performance analysis won't emerge until several days post-launch.
Early indications suggest the RTX 5060 may mirror the RTX 5070's generational improvements - approximately 20% faster than its predecessor in non-ray-traced games without frame generation. Nvidia claims the performance gap widens to 100% when enabling frame-generation technologies.
As with all new hardware releases, waiting for independent benchmarks remains the prudent approach. While reviews are forthcoming, consumers should anticipate a brief waiting period before trustworthy performance data becomes available.
