Nintendo Switch 2 Upgrades for Games like Breath of the Wild and Metroid Prime 4 Announced
During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo unveiled that nearly the entire catalog of Nintendo Switch games will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2. However, some fan-favorite titles are set to receive special "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" upgrades, boasting enhanced features and gameplay enhancements. Among these are The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
Each game's Nintendo Switch 2 Edition comes with unique benefits tailored to enhance the gaming experience. The spotlight first shone on Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which introduces "Jamboree TV," featuring mouse controls, audio recognition, enhanced haptic feedback, and innovative gameplay utilizing a new camera accessory.
Following that, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom were showcased, promising improved resolution, framerate, and HDR support. Additionally, they'll benefit from a new feature on the Nintendo Switch Online app called Zelda Notes. This service offers voice guidance to help players locate Shrines and Koroks, and enables sharing of creations in Tears of the Kingdom via QR codes with friends.Kirby and the Forgotten Land is set to receive a new story exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2 titled Star-Crossed World, along with enhanced graphics and framerates.
Two eagerly awaited titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokemon Legends: Z-A, are also slated for upgraded versions. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls, 4K resolution at 60fps, and HDR. Meanwhile, Pokemon Legends: Z-A will feature improved resolution and framerates.
These upgraded games will be available in both physical and digital formats. For those who already own the original versions on the Nintendo Switch, upgrade packs will be available for purchase for Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party, and Kirby.

Further into the presentation, Nintendo announced that several third-party titles will also receive Nintendo Switch 2 Editions, including Civilization 7 with mouse support, and Street Fighter 6, which will include exclusive game modes for the Switch 2.
The concept of "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games was first hinted at last week when a webpage mentioned these editions in a footnote about the newly announced Virtual Game Card system. This footnote clarified that these games cannot be transferred via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
