Nintendo Switch 2 Tour: Free Entry Requires $95 Gear, 4K TV

by Allison Nov 27,2025

Nintendo's $10 Switch 2 mini-game compilation—a collection many fans argue should have been complimentary—demands over $95 in additional accessories for full completion.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour launches today alongside the new console, featuring compact games and experiences designed to highlight the system's capabilities.

However, certain mini-games utilize the Switch 2's camera and specialized GL/GR buttons—features absent from standard Joy-Cons, requiring either a Charging Grip or Pro Controller (as reported by NintendoSoup), both sold separately.

Additionally, players will need a 4K television—an extra consideration for those planning to primarily use handheld mode.

Community reports confirm three activities require dedicated peripherals: one minigame needs a camera, another demands controllers with GL/GR buttons, while one minigame and a tech demo necessitate 4K display support.

Completing all Welcome Tour content requires not only the $10 software but also a $54.99 Switch 2 Camera, plus either a $39.99 Charging Grip or $84.99 Pro Controller for the button functionality.

Notably, the Switch 2 accommodates third-party USB-C cameras—a potential cost-saving alternative.

While Switch 1 Pro Controllers remain compatible, their lack of GL/GR buttons makes upgrades unavoidable. Recent tariff adjustments have slightly increased launch prices beyond initial announcements.

Nintendo has faced backlash for omitting Welcome Tour as a bundled title. This hardware showcase—effectively an interactive tutorial—would have mirrored Wii Sports' successful packaging strategy.

Former Nintendo America president Reggie Fils-Aimé referenced the Wii Sports precedent, having championed its inclusion during his tenure. While Japanese leadership originally favored separate sales, Fils-Aimé's approach for Western markets helped create gaming history.

"The $10 price point challenges consumers to value learning about Switch 2 features through fireworks demos and cartridge tutorials—a decision that's sparked considerable debate," noted IGN recently. The financial barrier's impact on adoption remains uncertain.

Recent IGN coverage also highlighted Switch 2 shipping damage caused by retailer packaging practices—a concern for all buyers regardless of Welcome Tour inclusion.
