Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Now Feature Mouse Functionality: Discover Their Capabilities
Since the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, fans have been buzzing over one particularly intriguing detail from the trailer: the Joy-Cons. Specifically, their unusual movement and apparent use as mouse controllers—something typically associated with PC gaming. Now, Nintendo has officially confirmed what many had speculated: the Joy-Cons support a special "mouse mode," allowing players to glide them across flat surfaces to control in-game actions. The analog sticks can be used to simulate left-click and right-click functions, much like a traditional computer mouse. What’s more, two Joy-Cons can be used simultaneously in mouse mode—one in each hand—or even paired with one in standard mode and the other in mouse mode. This opens up a whole new realm of gameplay possibilities.

During the Nintendo Direct presentation, the company showcased how this innovative feature works through a unique sports-style game called *Drag and Drive*. The title blends elements of Rocket League with basketball, featuring robot characters piloting wheelchair-like vehicles in fast-paced three-on-three matches. To play, users must utilize both Joy-Cons in mouse mode, maneuvering their on-screen characters by sliding the controllers across a surface. It's an imaginative way to interact with the game and highlights the versatility of the Joy-Con hardware.
Ever since the reveal trailer teased the Joy-Con mouse functionality—with the controllers gliding smoothly like traditional mice—speculation has run rampant among fans. We reached out to Firaxis Games, the developer behind *Civilization 7*, hoping for clarification on whether the new Joy-Con features would enhance their titles, but received only a vague and mysterious response. Still, excitement continues to build around these innovations, including the addition of the new C button, which has kept conversations lively in the gaming community over the past month. For many, these features serve as a strong counterpoint to early criticisms that the Nintendo Switch 2 was playing it too safe compared to Nintendo’s traditionally bold approach.
