Genki's CES 2025 Switch 2 Mockup Reveals Key Details

Genki, a prominent handheld gaming accessory manufacturer, unveiled a 3D-printed Nintendo Switch 2 mockup at CES 2025, revealing several key features. Based on a black market acquisition, the model accurately represents the console's dimensions, showcasing a larger form factor approaching the size of the Valve Steam Deck.

Key features observed include magnetically attached Joy-Cons with integrated optical sensors, a second USB-C port, and an enigmatic "C" button. Genki CEO Eddie Tsai confirmed the magnetic Joy-Con design in an interview with The Verge, explaining a release mechanism utilizing pins within the SL and SR buttons to overcome the magnetic hold. Despite the magnetic attachment, Tsai assures users of secure Joy-Con functionality during gameplay.

The optical sensors on the Joy-Cons hint at potential new functionalities, possibly enabling mouse-like control via a yet-to-be-released accessory. Leaked Switch 2 images appear to corroborate the presence of these sensors.

While larger than its predecessor, the Switch 2 remains slim enough to physically fit within the existing Switch dock. However, structural differences render it incompatible for use with the older dock. The purpose and functionality of the additional USB-C port and the "C" button remain undisclosed by Genki.
