Nintendo Reveals Pricey Upgrades for Switch 2 Games

by Penelope May 06,2025

Nintendo has announced the pricing for upgrading two more titles from the original Nintendo Switch to the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. The cost of these upgrades is notably higher than expected.

While The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom require a $9.99 upgrade fee each to transition to the Switch 2 Edition, NintendoLife has reported that the upgrades for both Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are more than double that amount.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integration with the new "Zelda Notes" service available through the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Switch version of Breath of the Wild can access these enhancements by purchasing an "upgrade pack" for $10.

The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content in the "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree's Switch 2 Edition includes a new feature called "Jamboree TV," which utilizes the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Additionally, this edition boasts upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, improved frame rates, new minigames, and enhanced online functionalities.

Although U.S. prices on the American Nintendo eShop are not yet available—potentially due to uncertainties related to President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop lists the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack at £16.99 / €19.99, significantly higher than the £7.99 / €9.99 fee for upgrading either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom.

The upgrade for Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV is similarly priced at £16.99 / €19.99, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99. This higher upgrade cost may be influenced by the $80 price tag of the full Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of both Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV, which are $20 more expensive than their original Switch counterparts, priced at $59.99 each.

For those not upgrading, here are the U.S. prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99

It's worth noting that the upgrade packs for both Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no additional cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers. However, no such offer exists for those looking to upgrade Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders began on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. The high demand has led Nintendo to warn U.S. customers who pre-ordered through the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery is not guaranteed.
