Weapon upgrades are handled at the Resistance Camp, requiring specific resources. One particularly useful, yet less common, material is Beast Hides. This guide details efficient farming methods.

Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata

Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife like moose and boar. These creatures appear randomly in specific map areas, generally avoiding players and robots. They're easily spotted on the mini-map by their white icons (as opposed to machines' black icons). However, unlike machines, wildlife doesn't respawn frequently, requiring strategic searching.

Moose and boar are found in the game's ruined city and forest zones. Their reaction to your attacks depends on your relative level; higher-level animals may flee or even attack aggressively if approached. Wildlife possesses substantial health, making early-game encounters challenging, especially against higher-level animals.

Animal Bait can lure wildlife closer, simplifying the hunting process.

Wildlife, unlike persistent enemies, doesn't constantly respawn during the main story. You'll need to hunt them during exploration, then move to new areas to find more. Respawn mechanics are similar to those for machines:

• Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
• Traveling a sufficient distance respawns creatures in previously visited areas.
• Key story events can trigger respawns of nearby wildlife and enemies.

There's no dedicated Beast Hide farming strategy. Simply eliminate all wildlife encountered while exploring the forest and city ruins. Beast Hides have a decent drop rate, so accumulating enough for your equipped weapons shouldn't be overly difficult, unless you're simultaneously upgrading numerous weapons.
