Monster Hunter Wilds Loses Players, MH World Rises

Monster Hunter Wilds sees a sharp decline in active players as MH World gradually narrows the gap. Dive into the details behind Wilds' dwindling player base and its upcoming first collaboration event.
Monster Hunter Wilds Experiences Steep Player Decline
Player Count Drops from 1 Million to 40k

While Monster Hunter Wilds became Capcom's fastest-selling title this year, player engagement has significantly tapered off three months post-launch. The game's concurrent player numbers have fallen sharply from its initial explosive popularity.
Monster Hunter content creator Zenny first noted this downward trend beginning in May. Current SteamDB data shows Wilds' 24-hour peak at 41,101 players - notably closer to MH World's 26,479 concurrent players. This represents a dramatic reduction from Wilds' launch figures.
Comparatively, MH World maintained over 100,000 concurrent players during its third month on Steam - more than double Wilds' current performance. Many fans cite the lack of compelling endgame content despite Title Update 1 as a key factor. The anticipated Summer Title Update 2 could potentially revitalize interest with fresh monsters and gameplay events.
Street Fighter Crossover Event Teased
Capcom may reignite player interest through a crossover with Street Fighter, another of its flagship franchises. On May 19, the official Monster Hunter Twitter account shared a cryptic image featuring a paw print styled after Street Fighter 6's urban design language.
While unconfirmed, this potential collaboration wouldn't be unprecedented. MH World previously featured crossover content including Ryu and Sakura armor sets, special combat gestures, and cosmetic outfits referencing Street Fighter characters.

This would mark Wilds' first major collaboration, building on the series' history of successful crossovers with properties like Devil May Cry, Sonic, and Assassin's Creed. The developer's track record with these events has generated considerable anticipation among fans.
With multiple content updates planned throughout 2024 and beyond, industry analysts predict Wilds could see a player resurgence. Available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Monster Hunter Wilds continues to evolve with new experiences for hunters worldwide. Stay informed with our latest coverage below!
