Milly Alcock: 'High-Up' Suggested Acting Coach on 'House of the Dragon' Set
Milly Alcock, known for her portrayal of the young Rhaenyra Targaryen in the acclaimed series "House of the Dragon," faced an unexpected challenge early in her journey on the show. The Australian actress, who has since been nominated for a Critics Choice award, revealed on "The Tonight Show" that she was told she needed an acting coach just two days into filming. "On my second day on House of the Dragon, one of the, I’m not gonna say who, but someone very high up, pulled me aside and was like, ‘Um, we’re gonna get you an acting coach,’" Alcock recounted, admitting she felt "mortified" by the suggestion.
In a light-hearted moment, Alcock shared how the incident served as a humbling experience. "It just confirmed everything that I’ve kind of known to be true, [which] is that I’m not very good at my job," she quipped, adding, "You know what I mean! I was like, ‘I can’t do this. This is terrible. This is a big mistake.’"
Despite the rocky start, Alcock's performance as the daughter and heir to King Viserys I Targaryen in Season 1 of "House of the Dragon" was well-received. She appeared as a series regular in the first season and made a guest appearance in Season 2. The role of the adult Rhaenyra Targaryen, who ascends to become Queen, is played by Emma D’Arcy.
The series, which premiered in August 2022, quickly gained a massive following, being renewed for a second season shortly after its debut and securing a Season 3 renewal in June 2024, even before the start of Season 2. "House of the Dragon" also achieved critical acclaim, winning the Golden Globe for Best Television Series — Drama.
Looking ahead, Alcock is set to expand her presence in the superhero genre, taking on the role of Kara Zor-El / Supergirl in the upcoming "Superman" movie this summer and the standalone film "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" next year. While excitement builds for Season 3 of "House of the Dragon," an official release date has yet to be announced.
