Michael Douglas Exits as Hank Pym in Marvel's Ant-Man

Veteran actor Michael Douglas, known for playing Hank Pym in the Ant-Man films, has indicated he is likely finished with the Marvel Cinematic Universe after four appearances as the shrinking scientist.

Douglas has appeared in all three Ant-Man movies to date, including the poorly received 2023 film *Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania*, after also featuring in *Avengers: Endgame*.

As production begins on *Avengers: Doomsday*, will fans see Hank Pym one final time? According to Douglas, it seems improbable.

"I don't think so," Douglas told Deadline when asked about returning for another Marvel project. "I've had the experience, and I was thrilled to do it."

Douglas has largely stepped back from acting, with his Marvel roles being his only major film appearances in recent years. Meanwhile, he has continued his work as a producer, with more than a dozen credits to his name.

"I'd never done a green screen movie before," Douglas added, reflecting on his Marvel work. "But I'm enjoying my break and my life. Juggling the production company and acting simultaneously was quite demanding."

Douglas previously expressed a wish for Hank Pym to be killed off in *Quantumania*, concluding the character's story and raising the stakes for Paul Rudd's Ant-Man. Marvel executives, however, chose a different path.

The box office performance of *Quantumania* has cast doubt on the future of the Ant-Man series, though Paul Rudd is confirmed to return in *Avengers: Doomsday*.

As for the rest of the Ant-Man family—Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer's Janet Van Dyne, and Evangeline Lilly's Hope Van Dyne—their return is uncertain. In June 2024, Lilly announced she was taking a step back from acting to focus on her family, making a *Doomsday* appearance by the Wasp also unlikely.
