Iron Patriot's Mechanics

Iron Patriot is a 2-cost, 3-power card with the ability: "On Reveal: Add a random 4, 5, or 6-Cost card to your hand. If you're winning here after the next turn, give it -4 Cost."

This straightforward effect adds a high-cost card to your hand. If you control the location after your next turn, that card's cost is reduced by 4. This can lead to powerful plays, particularly with cards like Doctor Doom, but requires strategic placement to secure the lane. Cards like Juggernaut, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Rocket & Groot directly interact with, and can counter, Iron Patriot's effect.

Best Iron Patriot Decks

Iron Patriot's versatility allows inclusion in various decks, particularly those focused on hand generation. Two strong examples are Wiccan-centric strategies and updated Devil Dinosaur lists.

Wiccan-Style Deck:

Kitty Pryde, Zabu, Hydra Bob, Psylocke, Iron Patriot, U.S. Agent, Rocket & Groot, Copycat, Galactus, Daughter of Galactus, Wiccan, Legion, Alioth. (Copy this list from Untapped)

This deck thrives against meta-dominant Doom 2099. The goal is to leverage Wiccan's energy generation for late-game power plays, buffed by Galactus and Kitty Pryde. U.S. Agent provides powerful lane control, while Hydra Bob, Rocket & Groot, or Copycat synergize with Iron Patriot. Careful placement is crucial to maximize Iron Patriot's cost reduction.

Devil Dinosaur Deck (Revised):

Maria Hill, Quinjet, Hydra Bob, Hawkeye & Kate Bishop, Iron Patriot, Sentinel, Victoria Hand, Mystique, Agent Coulson, Shang-Chi, Wiccan, Devil Dinosaur. (Copy this list from Untapped)

This deck revisits the classic Devil Dinosaur strategy, enhanced by Iron Patriot and Victoria Hand. While Iron Patriot doesn't directly summon Devil Dinosaur, the combination with Victoria Hand creates powerful late-game scenarios. Mystique's ability to copy Victoria Hand further amplifies this effect. If a large hand isn't available, shifting to a Wiccan-focused strategy is viable. Sentinel's cost reduction, combined with Quinjet, creates powerful 1-cost high-power plays.

Day One Value: Is Iron Patriot Worth It?

Iron Patriot is a strong card with broad applications, though not game-breaking. While several 2-cost alternatives exist, his value significantly increases in hand-generation decks. If you enjoy these deck types, the Season Pass's $9.99 USD price is justified, considering the included bonus content. Otherwise, his value is more situational.
