Marvel Rivals mods with Trump and Biden removed, Nexus Mods owner threatened

Nexus Mods, a popular modding platform, is facing backlash after removing over 500 mods for the game Marvel Rivals in a single month. The controversy centers on the removal of two mods that replaced Captain America's head with images of Joe Biden and Donald Trump.

The platform's owner, TheDarkOne, clarified on Reddit that both mods were removed simultaneously to prevent accusations of political bias. He noted, however, that this action has been met with unexpected criticism from online commentators. "We removed the Biden mod on the same day as the Trump mod to avoid bias. But for some reason YouTube bloggers are silent about it," TheDarkOne stated.

The situation escalated further when TheDarkOne reported receiving threats and abusive messages following the removals. "Today we're receiving death threats, being called pedophiles, and subjected to all sorts of insults simply because someone chose to highlight this issue," he added.

This isn't the first time Nexus Mods has faced controversy over mod removals. A similar incident occurred in 2022, involving a Spider-Man Remastered mod that replaced rainbow flags with American flags. At the time, the platform publicly defended its decision, citing a commitment to inclusivity and the removal of content deemed discriminatory.

TheDarkOne concluded by stating that Nexus Mods will not engage with those who object to their moderation policies.
