Marvel Rivals Developer Considers Future Nintendo Switch 2 Release
The highly acclaimed hero shooter, Marvel Rivals, has been making waves on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, fans of the Nintendo Switch have been left out as developer NetEase has firmly stated that the game won't be coming to the current Switch console. But with the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, there's a glimmer of hope for Nintendo enthusiasts eager to join the action.
At the recent DICE Summit in Las Vegas, we had the chance to discuss this possibility with Marvel Rivals producer, Weicong Wu. The news is promising for Switch fans: a Switch 2 release is on the table. Wu explained, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason why we didn't launch it onto the Switch was that the first generation of that device couldn't provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, we're open to that."
The Nintendo Switch 2 was officially unveiled last month, and though details on its capabilities are still sparse, it's poised to be a more powerful iteration of the beloved console. One intriguing feature is the potential for mouse-like controller functionality, which could enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals, making it more akin to PC gaming. However, the exact implementation of this feature remains to be seen.
While the Nintendo Switch 2 does not yet have a release date, a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2, which might shed more light on its launch. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms and has received high praise. In our 8/10 review, we noted that "it may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." The game is set to introduce The Human Torch and The Thing as the latest heroes on February 21.
