Jack Quaid Expresses Enthusiasm for BioShock Film Role, Draws Max Payne Comparisons in Novocaine

The Boys actor Jack Quaid has expressed his eagerness to star in a BioShock film, calling the iconic first-person shooter one of his all-time favorite games.

In a Reddit AMA promoting his latest film, Novocaine, Quaid highlighted the rich narrative potential of BioShock for a screen adaptation.

"I’d absolutely love to join a live-action BioShock project—one of my favorite games ever," he said. "Its deep lore offers so much to explore in a film or TV series."

But how likely is a BioShock movie? Last July, producer Roy Lee noted that after leadership changes, the video-game-to-film adaptation was restructured into a "more intimate" project.

Lee explained that budget cuts from Netflix prompted the changes. The plot details of the BioShock film remain undisclosed, leaving its original vision unclear. Hunger Games director Francis Lawrence remains attached to direct.

“The new leadership reduced the budgets,” Lee stated. “We’re now crafting a smaller, more character-driven story rather than a sprawling, large-scale production.”

Quaid’s BioShock enthusiasm coincides with fans noting his striking resemblance to Max Payne, the video game character inspired by Remedy writer Sam Lake. Scenes from Novocaine have sparked speculation about a hidden Max Payne adaptation.

Live-action Max Payne feels so vivid and compelling. This screams Max Payne. I’m hooked already. Even the female character echoes Max Payne 2’s vibe. The likeness is uncanny, as if Novocaine’s cast (especially Jack Quaid resembling Sam Lake) was made for it. pic.twitter.com/kawh2C1B2n

However, Quaid seems less acquainted with Max Payne, which is currently being remade by Remedy in collaboration with Rockstar, the original publisher.

“I’ve heard people say I resemble Max Payne, and when I saw the game’s cover, I did a double-take,” Quaid admitted. “I’m a fan of Rockstar’s work, but I haven’t played Max Payne yet—it’s definitely next on my list.”

Beyond BioShock, Quaid is passionate about FromSoftware titles. During the Reddit AMA, he shared his love for the grueling challenges of games like Bloodborne and Elden Ring.

“I’m a total video game enthusiast,” he said. “Recently, I’ve been immersed in FromSoftware’s catalog. I conquered Bloodborne, then Sekiro, and now I’m deep into Elden Ring. Honestly, I use Reddit mostly for tips on tackling FromSoftware’s tough bosses. Their games are brutally challenging, but I’m completely hooked.”
