Jack Black Builds Mansion on Private Minecraft Movie Server
The recently released *A Minecraft Movie* has taken an innovative approach to authenticity by integrating a private Minecraft server for its cast and crew. This immersive environment allowed everyone involved to live and breathe the game, enhancing the film's true-to-source feel. Notably, Jack Black, who portrays Steve, embraced the game wholeheartedly. He constructed a striking mansion atop the tallest mountain within the server, complete with a unique art gallery in its basement, aiming to prove his credentials as a "real Minecrafter."
Producer Torfi Frans Ólafsson shared with IGN that having Minecraft readily available created an atmosphere reminiscent of an indie game studio, buzzing with creativity and collaboration. Although not all ideas could be implemented due to the project's momentum, the server enabled the team to add special touches that aligned the movie closely with the game's spirit.
Director Jared Hess praised Black's dedication, describing how he was methodically engaged with Minecraft, often seen harvesting resources and building within the game. Black himself humorously noted his commitment to preparing for the role, spending countless hours on the server and even competing with the impressive creations of the cast and crew. His ambitious project, the "stairway to Steve" and the subsequent mansion, became a symbol of his involvement, with Ólafsson confirming its ongoing presence on the server, even visited by security guards from the set.
