by Aiden May 04,2025

IGN has exciting news for fans of the much-anticipated game, Hollow Knight: Silksong. The game will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne starting September 18, 2025. This opportunity arises as part of a video game exhibition called "Game Worlds," which will also showcase the intricate design and artistic direction of the game.

Developed by Team Cherry, a studio based in Adelaide, South Australia, Hollow Knight: Silksong has been eagerly awaited by gamers worldwide, consistently topping the Steam wishlist chart. Although the exact release date remains undisclosed beyond a 2025 window, this event at ACMI marks a significant milestone for fans eager to experience the game.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their excitement about featuring Hollow Knight: Silksong in the "Game Worlds" exhibition: “Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September.

"From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!"

As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, which is one of several design elements that will be showcased in the "Game Worlds" exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.

With Hollow Knight: Silksong set to be playable at the museum from September 18, fans speculate that a release might occur before this date, possibly in August. The game's anticipation was further fueled by a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, which included a few seconds of new gameplay and confirmed Team Cherry’s updated 2025 launch plans. This was the most significant update on Silksong in years.

Originally announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with subsequent versions planned for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, Hollow Knight: Silksong has been at the center of numerous intriguing teases. The year 2025 kicked off with a mysterious tease involving a chocolate cake recipe, sparking hope among fans for a re-reveal in April.
