Happy Gilmore 2 Secures Biggest U.S. Opening Weekend of All Time for a Netflix Film, KPop Demon Hunters Now the Most Popular Netflix Animated Film of All Time

Happy Gilmore 2 has achieved the highest U.S. weekend debut for a Netflix movie in history, with KPop Demon Hunters becoming the most-viewed animated film ever on the platform.

The Adam Sandler sequel has gathered over 46.7 million views within its first three days of release, marking it as the top-performing weekend for a Sandler film on the streamer so far — an impressive feat given the comedian's long history with the studio. However, KPop Demon Hunters, which launched on June 20, is not backing down from these achievements without a challenge on the charts.

In fact, the movie has become the most-watched animated film of all time on Netflix and even reached what the streamer refers to as a "new viewing peak" during its fifth week on the service. This week specifically, KPop Demon Hunters recorded 26.3 million views, yet it still lags behind what Sandler's latest offering is achieving.

Still, both films are performing exceptionally well for the platform and have proven to be popular with viewers, making it clear they will continue to achieve strong numbers and potentially break more records for the streamer.

Happy Gilmore 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 comedy that follows a quirky hockey player who takes up golf to save his grandmother's home from repossession. Sandler naturally returns in the lead role, while Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald, Ben Stiller, Dennis Dugan, and Kevin Nealon also reprise their roles from the original film.

KPop Demon Hunters is a brand-new animated musical fantasy film that follows the KPop girl group Huntr/x, who perform during the day and battle demons at night. Former members Daniel Dae Kim and Yujin Kim, popular comedian Ken Jeong, and Teen Wolf's Arden Cho join the voice cast alongside several top South Korean actors and singers.

Both Happy Gilmore 2 and KPop Demon Hunters are now available for streaming on Netflix.
