Gears of War: E-Day Delayed to 2025, Skips Xbox Showcase
If you tuned in to the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 hoping for a glimpse of Gears of War: E-Day, you may have been disappointed. The event offered little focus on Microsoft's major franchises, with no updates on Forza, Halo, or the upcoming Fable reboot.
However, Xbox head Phil Spencer confirmed that Gears of War: E-Day is scheduled to arrive in 2026—alongside the next installment of Forza—as part of the brand's 25th anniversary celebration.
The next chapter in the long-running Gears of War series was officially announced a year ago at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. E-Day will serve as a prequel set 14 years before the original game, telling the origin story of iconic heroes Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, with John DiMaggio and Carlos Ferro reprising their voice roles.
“Gears of War: E-Day isn't just our next major release—it's a return to the core elements that define the Gears of War experience,” said Mike Crump, head of The Coalition, in an earlier statement.
Earlier this year, People Can Fly—the studio behind Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgment—was announced as a co-developer on E-Day, collaborating with Xbox’s internal team, The Coalition.
Today's Xbox Games Showcase also included a teaser from Phil Spencer hinting at a long-awaited return for Halo, possibly in the form of a remaster of the original title. For the full rundown, explore all the announcements from the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2025.
