Gameplay Quirks: Pokemon NPCs Overstay Their Welcome

A Pokémon player's popularity has reached a fever pitch—or perhaps a glitch. A short video shows the player trapped, relentlessly bombarded with calls from two persistent NPCs.

Pokémon Gold and Silver introduced the feature of receiving calls from certain NPCs after battles. These calls can range from friendly updates to rematch offers. However, this player's experience has taken an unexpected turn.

Pokémon enthusiast FodderWadder shared a video of themselves cornered in a Pokémon Center. The video opens with a call from Wade the Bug Catcher, detailing his Caterpie training and a recent Pidgey encounter. Before the player can react, Youngster Joey calls, requesting a rematch on Route 30.

The relentless ringing continues. Joey's call repeats, followed immediately by another from Wade, seemingly echoing his previous message. This isn't a simple case of repetitive calls; it's a relentless barrage.

The reason for this call-bombardment remains unclear. While Youngster Joey and the call system in Pokémon Gold and Silver are known for their repetitive calls, this situation is extreme. FodderWadder suspects a save file glitch. Other players, however, find the situation amusing, suggesting the NPCs simply crave conversation.

Deleting phone numbers in the original games is possible, but incoming calls answer automatically. FodderWadder eventually escaped the endless loop, but the process proved challenging, requiring careful timing to access the menu, delete the numbers, and finally flee the Pokémon Center. The experience has left them hesitant to add any new contacts, fearing a repeat of the relentless calls.
