Formovie Episode One Hardware Review: Projection Paradise?

by Lucy May 26,2025

At Droid Gamers, we're always excited to explore new tech, and the Formovie Episode One projector is a fresh addition to our lineup. Designed to stream mobile games onto a larger screen, this projector caught our attention as a perfect fit for enhancing your gaming experience on a budget.

The Formovie Episode One aims to be an affordable option in a market where projectors can often be prohibitively expensive. We believe it not only meets but exceeds this goal, despite a few minor drawbacks.

Right out of the box, you'll find the projector itself, a remote (batteries not included), a power cable, and a manual. While it's not as heavy as its pricier counterparts, the Episode One still feels substantial. This lighter build, however, makes it highly portable—weighing in at just three pounds, it's easy to take with you wherever you go.

Some users might find the port selection a bit limited, with only a single USB-A port, one HDMI port, and an audio jack. This is understandable given the cost, and for most people, it should suffice.

Performance-wise, the Episode One holds its own for the price point. With 150 ISO lumens, it's not the brightest or most powerful laser-based projector on the market. It struggled in bright sunlight during our tests but performed admirably in darker environments, which is expected but still reassuring.

Every film and TV show we tested looked clear and sharp, and the games we streamed ran smoothly as well. For the best image quality, we found that the projector needed to be positioned at least 10 feet away from the screen. The sound output from the built-in speaker was acceptable, though somewhat tinny. For a better audio experience, we recommend connecting an external speaker if possible.

The user interface of the Episode One is one of the best in its class. Its straightforward setup and ease of use make it more user-friendly than many of the more expensive projectors we've encountered.

Overall, the Formovie Episode One is an excellent entry-level projector. It may not excel in any single area, but it's a reliable all-rounder that should meet the needs of most casual users.
