Square Enix has confirmed it will phase out Windows 10 compatibility for its MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV this fall. The developer revealed the change will take effect on October 14, 2025 – matching Microsoft's scheduled termination of security updates for the aging OS.

While the game might technically remain playable on Windows 10 beyond the cutoff date, Square Enix clarified: "We won't guarantee technical support for Windows 10-related issues once official support ends." The team noted they may address some problems on an individual basis, but can't promise comprehensive troubleshooting for the outdated platform.

This transition coincides with updated system requirements. Players will need Windows 11 64-bit going forward, along with upgraded CPU specs. The minimum processor jumps from Intel Core i7-7700 to Core i5-8400, while recommended specs maintain the Core i7-9700 threshold.

This news comes as Final Fantasy XIV prepares for its 7.3 update, "The Promise of Tomorrow," launching in early August. Following the Dawntrail expansion, the patch continues the story with fresh Main Scenario Quests exploring Solution Nine's mysteries. The update also introduces the next chapter in the Final Fantasy XI crossover raid series - "San d'Oria: The Second Walk" - packed with nostalgic callbacks for longtime FFXI fans.

For Windows 10 holdouts, the writing's on the wall. With Microsoft sunsetting the OS and now game developers following suit, upgrading to Windows 11 is becoming increasingly necessary for modern gaming.
