Previously, Xbox Game Studios leadership confirmed Fable's postponement from its original 2025 release window to 2026. Developers cited standard polishing requirements and the need for additional refinements as the primary reasons.

The reboot of this beloved franchise was initially announced on July 23, 2020, yet substantial information remained scarce during subsequent years. Three years post-announcement, reports indicated the project was still in early development phases.

The situation raises concerns as lead developer Playground Games enlisted support from Eidos Montreal, coupled with the prolonged absence of polished gameplay demonstrations. These factors suggest significant development challenges exist for the project.
