Oblivion Remastered Update Introduces New Visual Glitches
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered PC players have encountered issues following a surprise update released today, though Bethesda has confirmed a fix is in development.
Players discovered that Virtuos's major re-release received an unannounced update earlier today. With no patch notes or clear explanation of its purpose, many continued their gameplay as usual. Others, however, quickly realized this initial Oblivion Remastered update was creating more issues than it resolved.
Seriously, why would @virtuosgames push an update to Oblivion Remastered that removes all upscaling right before the game's first weekend?!!?

“I can't change the upscaling methods anymore,” a Reddit user noted. “It's locked on ‘off’ and clicking the arrows does nothing. I closed the game, disabled fluid motion in the NVIDIA app (I was testing something before the patch), and restarted. My save file now has long loading times, and I still can't adjust the upscaling settings.
“Now I'm stuck at 40-60 fps on high settings with a 5800X3D and an RTX 5080. Great patch :D”
While some players haven't seen significant performance changes, others are reporting new problems with low framerates. Many also confirm that upscaling settings are now completely inaccessible, causing major visual issues just before Oblivion Remastered's first full weekend with players.
Bethesda has now addressed the concerns in a post on its official support page. Regarding the purpose of today's update, the post states the patch simply contained "a few backend tweaks with no direct impact on gameplay." Unfortunately, it appears players who own Oblivion Remastered through the Microsoft Store are the ones experiencing problems with upscaling and anti-aliasing settings.
“Any graphic settings adjusted prior to the Microsoft Store hotfix remain enabled and functional," Bethesda clarified. "However, you will temporarily be unable to adjust those settings due to an issue with the settings UI. The team is investigating and working on a solution. We will share more information as soon as possible."
For now, it's unclear when a fix for what was intended to be a low-profile hotfix will arrive. In the interim, it seems players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S consoles can continue playing without any issues.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion launched earlier this week for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X | S. To learn more about Bethesda's surprise re-release, you can read about why Bethesda and Virtuos aimed to preserve the original game's quirks and why some players still love it after all these years.
