Elden Ring Live-Action Movie Announced

Bandai Namco Entertainment and A24 have confirmed that a live-action adaptation of Elden Ring is underway, bringing the game’s epic universe to the big screen.

Renowned filmmaker Alex Garland, known for Ex Machina and Civil War, will direct and write the screenplay, aiming to capture the game’s sweeping narrative and intense action. The film is backed by producers Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich of DNA Films, alongside George R. R. Martin, creator of A Song of Ice and Fire, and Vince Gerardis, co-executive producer of Game of Thrones. It remains unclear whether FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, the game’s director, will contribute to the project.

Details on the plot and casting are still under wraps, keeping fans eagerly awaiting further updates.

Elden Ring Thrives in 2025

While the Elden Ring film is in early development, the franchise continues to dominate gaming. Launched in 2022, the original Elden Ring sold over 13.4 million copies in its first five weeks and reached 30 million by April 2025, as announced on the official Elden Ring X account, celebrating the global community of Tarnished explorers. The title has earned over 324 Game of the Year awards, with its 2024 DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, receiving widespread acclaim.

FromSoftware is expanding the franchise with two new releases in 2025. Elden Ring Nightreign, a co-op action game set in the realm of Limveld, casts players as Nightfarers battling the Nightlord. It reimagines core Elden Ring elements for a multiplayer experience and will launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on May 30.

Additionally, the Elden Ring Tarnished Edition for the Nintendo Switch 2 will release this year, bundling the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, four new armor sets, and customization options for Torrent the Spectral Steed. Though not a launch title for the console, it promises to bring the full Elden Ring experience to Switch fans.
