Skate Adds Microtransactions Before Release
Electronic Arts has introduced microtransactions during the latest alpha test phase for Skate, preceding an official release date announcement.
Developer Full Circle has implemented an in-game currency called San Van Bucks - purchasable with real money - to acquire cosmetic items during the ongoing closed alpha, as reported by Insider Gaming. The development team intends to evaluate the microtransaction system to ensure positive player experiences when making store purchases.
"We value your feedback to help create an optimal experience for Early Access launch," developers noted in their announcement.
Insider Gaming reports that Full Circle has notified testers about inevitable progress resets before Early Access begins. Any purchased San Van Bucks will be credited back to accounts when Early Access commences.
Skate's Early Access is scheduled for 2025. Originally unveiled during EA Play 2020 while in early development, Full Circle has maintained community engagement through closed playtests and development updates via their "The Board Room" video series.
The studio formally announced 'skate.' as the official title in 2022, confirming its free-to-play model for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC platforms.
